Where It All Began

Five moves in ten years taught us more about homes than we ever expected — how they’re built, what holds value, and what truly makes a house feel like home.

Our early moves landed us in turn-key properties, but everything changed on our fourth move, when we took on our first fixer-upper.

That project introduced us to the full spectrum of service providers — some excellent, some… not so much. Along the way, we built lasting relationships with the people who truly cared about their craft. Those connections led us to an incredible network of skilled, reliable technicians.

With the right team in place, that once-run-down house transformed into an amazing space where we made lasting memories with family and friends. Challenging, rewarding, and deeply satisfying — it showed us what was possible.

Built by Experience, Driven by Design

When Alan’s job moved us once again, we knew Michigan would be our forever home.

We found a 60-year-old house in a fantastic neighborhood — structurally a gem, but cosmetically stuck in another era. We started with the basics: paint and carpet. Then we lived in the space for a year and a half, learning how it functioned and where it fell short.

When we tried to make bigger changes without our trusted network from before, things didn’t go as planned. That’s when Megan took the reins.

What started small — flipping free and rundown furniture — quickly grew into something bigger. One project led to another, and by the time she bought her first compound miter saw, she was hooked.

How One Fixer-Upper Changed Everything

Together, we reimagined our home from the inside out.

We made structural changes to improve flow and make better use of space. We layered in design-forward choices — vibrant turquoise wainscoting, a mid-century modern–inspired living room, and a tired bathroom refreshed into something modern and fun.

Room by room, our house transformed into something uniquely us. Each space had its own personality, yet everything worked together in harmony to create a home that was a joy to live in.

That experience is what sparked Gonzalez Homes.

Today, we bring that same thoughtful approach to every project — whether we’re renewing a neglected property into a clean, livable slate or helping homeowners design and renovate spaces that truly reflect who they are.
